Bali, Indonesia – September 10, 2024 – Biorock Indonesia is pleased to announce the success of the “Healthy Oceans, Great Business” program. Over the last four months, 40 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have accessed essential skills in developing, promoting, and sustaining eco-friendly businesses that positively impact our oceans.
The program’s closing ceremony, held today in Pemuteran, Bali, brought together 100 businesses from Bali and nationwide in a hybrid offline and online event, underscoring the significance of eco-conscious business practices in the Blue Economy. This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering a synergy between business and conservation.
“We are delighted to witness the progress of these entrepreneurs,” stated Prawita Tasya Karissa, Biorock Indonesia’s Executive Director. “We aim to empower businesses to grow stronger and more resilient, thereby contributing to the overarching goals of the Blue Economy and marine conservation. We would also like to thank Accenture which has made a significant contribution to the success of this program not only financially, but also our strategic partner which provides extensive business strategy volunteering & workshop sessions for all scholarship awardees via its Corporate Citizenship team.”
Alwan Hafizh, Lead for Corporate Citizenship at Accenture in Indonesia said “With great pride, we celebrate the successful completion of the Laut Sehat, Bisnis Hebat Program — a significant step for Indonesia’s coastal communities and the Blue Economy movement. The event featured networking opportunities for participants, followed by a brief seminar on sustainable business planning and marketing strategies. Additionally, the top three finalists from the pitching competition, showcasing business ideas or partnerships that positively impact the ocean from various regions of Indonesia, were invited to Bali to present their proposals.

About Laut Sehat Bisnis Hebat Program:
The conventional perceptions of business and conservation are at odds, impeding the synergy of the blue economy. By fostering a partnership between business and environmental conservation, a stronger impact can be achieved, b
eginning with establishing a robust and collaborative network.
The Indonesian government has initiated a funding mechanism for conservation areas. Despite these efforts generating non-tax revenue for the government, they do not directly support marine conservation and restoration. Some businesses oppose the fees in certain areas, fearing they may burden their customers.
“Laut Sehat, Bisnis Hebat” (Healthy Ocean, Great Business) is a program tailored to support local and national businesses in the blue economy and coral reef-related brands facing challenges and aiming to enhance their business while making positive impacts on the ocean. Through offline outreach and virtual classrooms, the program shares industry best practices and expertise, fostering strong networks.
The program caters to two main groups of beneficiaries:
- Indonesian companies or brands seeking to boost sales and contribute to environmental causes but facing budget constraints.
- Businesses in Pemuteran near the Biorock Restoration Project, benefiting from visitors drawn to the project, such as dive operators, hotels, homestays, restaurants, laundry services, and mini-markets.
These businesses aim to enhance sales but lack the expertise in business planning and operations. This initiative enables small and medium businesses in the blue economy sectors or those associated with coral reefs to expand confidently, boost sales, and revenue. Moreover, these businesses can choose to support environmental causes like Coral Reef Restoration through mutually beneficial partnerships with non-profit organizations or social enterprises dedicated to environmental projects.
